Amity Perry

As a Georgia Tech grad, I value the scientific process and research methods as a firm foundation for user goods and experiences. From designing a Clean Laundry Express for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to a Raynauds shoe for improved circulation, I like to build the design criteria for each product around scientific research to create quality solutions that generate genuine impact.

My Projects

Rigid Wet/Dry Vacuum

The Ridgid UPLIFT was a sponsored project for Emerson Tool Company that tasked us with designing a wet/dry vacuum.

This project was completed on a foundation of extensive user testing that revealed potential improvements on the current model, as well as expanding innovation into new areas through unique material choice and articulating features.

The Rigid UPLIFT model was designed to reduce the movement, accessory storage, and unit maintenance pain points that may serve as barriers to use for a wide range of consumers.

RayCoats

RayCoats is a soft goods project I designed and fabricated from start to finish. It is a modern yet intentional piece with a form based on the anatomy of the endangered species, Manta Rays. The high collar mocks the cephalic fin, the contrast pockets mimic gills, and the sleeves are connected at the sides to mirror the large, flat form of their body.

I created the pattern to be loose so the jacket can fit a wide range of bodies, and created a muslin mockup to ensure a positive relationship between the body and the piece.

The Raynaud's Shoe

The Raynaud's shoe is a capstone project backed by a scientific research project that investgated the impact of design on footwear through the lens of Raynauds disease. Raynauds disease is a circulatory diease that causes blood vessels to constrict in cold weather cause numbness, pain, and loss of feeling in parts of the body, but specifically the foot.

The shoe is designed for young women, a commonly affected party, that commute to work in cold climates. They may be outside for up to 30 minutes walking to and from transportation to work, the store, etc. and loose feeling entirely in the foot during that time. This shoe allows them to live their daily lives with ease and move forward.
